For my second installment of interactive out-of-home campaigns, I wanted to highlight another creative campaign that integrates technology. Samsung ran a mall campaign in three malls in the Chicagoland area, which integrated Near Field Communication technology (NFC). The technology is a short range low-power wireless link evolved from RFID technology that can transfer small amounts of data between two devices held within a few centimeters of one another. The Samsung ads invited shoppers to tap their NFC enabled devices to the ad to collect free mp3s and e-books. The ads also integrate promotional discounts by offering a $300 credit on the purchase of a Samsung Gallaxy III phone. A great way to engage consumers but for all the Apple phone users out there you are out of luck because Apple has yet to embrace this technology in their phone. Who knows maybe in iPhone 6?
